Joe is explaining how he grew up w/o the love from his mother and seems that he's always searching for it in other people.
There's a similarity. Mark was not really that close to his mother either. He grew up mainly with his grandma, however he never discussed if his mother loved him as much.
Yea. Joe explained how his mother lost her mother and didn't have a "nurturer" or a mother figure. Therefore she grew up really tough and wasn't much a lover but her husband was the exact opposite
Did she pass? what happened to her and where's his father?
Joe moved to Canada after being sponsored by his cousin (military/ only immediate family) and later his wife saved enough money to finally come along. They changed their last names from Goldstein to Weider
^^^^^^ this is incorrect, I misread it. Joe's father (Arieh/ Louis) was ordered by Czarist officers to the army. They worked in Ukraine and afterwards was taken to North America under sponsorship of his cousin Sender Goldstein. Louis wasn't allowed to bring any family, therefore he moved to Montreal, Canada without this wife and kids but Sender brought his younger brother Philip Goldstein. Louis's wife, Anna, sold a necklace her real mother left for her, this provided enough money for a steamship ticket. Anna and the kids finally made it to Canada and changed their last names to Goldstein. Eventually they weren't as close to Sender anymore and came up with Weider as their new/ legal last name.
He trained to defend his self from bullies and to gain weight (muscle). Although he was VERY poor. He collected money by delivering newspapers after school hours

Before Joe was born, his mother had 2 stillborn and 1 child was born and lived for 2 months before becoming sick and passed.
After moving to Montreal, Canada, the mother gave birth to Jakob but he eventually got sick and passed. Soon she had Louis (older brother) but passed before reaching 30 because he had rheumatic fever that damaged his heart. Afterward Joe was born.
Joe isn't really sure of his birthday but it's November 29 1920 or 1922. They simply said some time before Hanukkah.
How is he not sure of his birthday?
His records were burned in a fire and no government documentations was found.
He went to school and was known for his art (drawings). He sold newspapers to make a little money. His teacher wanted his to sell his art and place them in museums. ( after moving to North America)
How was he treated in school? Was he bullied at all?
Kids bullied Joe because he was Jewish, Catholic, very skinny, and very poor. Him and his family stopped communicating in Yiddish unless they were talking to Anna (mom) because people always talking bout them and their language.
ok, so Mark was the only child who was adopted in his family.
Did they speak on what happened to his original parents?
Mark loved Barbie dolls as a child and he was afraid of his father because his father beat him every time he was caught with one. His father did not agree with him being gay.
Why was he adopted to this family if they didn't like who he was?
They didn't know that he was going to be gay when they adopted him because he was only 2.
Louis(dad) and his kids (4) spoke Yiddish and English but once moving to Canada they were ashamed of speaking Yiddish. Anna(mom) only spoke Yiddish because she was partially deaf.

Ok so what was his father like? Did he have one?
His father was in the army. He was more of the mother role because he was more loving than she was
Oh ok so that means him and his father had a good relationship right? Because in my book, Mark doesnt have a good relationship with his father.
Did he have any family in the Army?
His father and his fathers cousin was in the army. And yea, Joe was really close with his father but not really his mom
Was weightlifting the main thing going on in his life? Bc in my book, swimming was the main thing that happened in his life and he never really did anything else.
